janice paine-dawes is an award winning fiber artist currently working in a watercolor technique on 100% silk. designated one of america's top craftsmen in a national competition, she has won numerous awards in juried shows. before relocating to sarasota, she was a state of illinois artisan exhibiting in the state sponsored galleries in chicago, springfield and rend lake. she has works in private collections both in the united states and europe and a commissioned reproduction work in a museum outside boston.
an artistic beginning in 2-d had a natural progression to hand-dyeing fabric designs when needed colors and textures for a fiber work in progress were not commercially available. the unique results of dye combinations applied to a blank fabric has distinctively surprising results. on-going experimentation with silks and dyes has culminated in the original design watercolor silk hand-quilted and beaded evening bags and scarves/evening wraps being shown at rilla gallery.
