About Towles Court

The Towles Court Art District is one of Sarasota’s oldest and most respected art districts featuring galleries, shops, studios and restaurants.  Located near downtown Sarasota, on Adams Lane between S. Links Ave. & 301- the galleries and shops exhibit work in a wide range of media by local and national artists.

 “Coastal Living” magazine named Towles Court a “Top Ten Artist Colony”. It has also received a Mayor’s Citation for “promoting the Arts in Sarasota.”

Juror: Joseph Melancon grew up as part of an artistic family in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. His art is represented locally by State of the Art Gallery and he also exhibits nationally.  His work has been featured in many publications and he frequently teaches workshops in the Sarasota area.

Awards: 1st Prize $300, 2nd $200, 3rd $100, Honorable Mention $50, and a YOUNG ARTIST AWARD $250

Dates and Deadlines

Nov.15: 1l AM - 4 PM: Delivery of work to the Towles Court Art Center. 1938 Adams Lane, Sarasota, FL 34236

Nov.16:  All artists will be notified of acceptance or non-acceptance by email or phone between 4 PM - 8 PM

Nov. 17:  Pick-up of all non-accepted art work between 11 AM - 4 PM Towles Court Art Center 1938 Adams Lane

Nov. 18: - Dec. 13:  “Small Works” Group Exhibition

Nov. 18: “Small Works” Opening Reception 5-7 PM AWARD CEREMONY 6:00 PM (Gallery open until 10 PM)

Dec. 13:  Return of exhibited work. Pick up 11AM- 4PM

Eligibility

Open to artists 18 years and older living in Sarasota and Manatee Counties. (Those affiliated with Towles Court are not eligible) Two entries per artist can be accepted.  (Young artists are encouraged to submit work for consideration for the atLargeInc.Young Artist Award.)

 

Media and Originality  Original, 2D and 3D artwork in any traditional medium, including: fiber, sculpture, ceramics, metal and glass. No video. No photography or jewelry. No giclee copies of any kind. Work must have been completed within the last three years. Each artist may submit up to 2 entries.

Size: *New larger size accepted this year* Finished or framed work not to exceed 18” x 24” or 84" circumference (total of all four sides).  Three dimensional work must be submitted with its own appropriate pedestal. Pedestals cannot exceed 18" in depth. Three dimensional work may not exceed 60" as a total of length, width, and depth, not including pedestal.

Presentation

Works on canvas must have a frame or finished edges (no staples showing) and be ready to hang. All works on paper must be framed ready to hang. Frames must be in good condition (no scratches or loose corners) Mats must be clean and smoothly cut.

Plexiglas must be clean and unscratched.

Wires must be attached firmly to the back of the piece.

Pedestal for 3-D work must be supplied by the artist and must have a stable base.

Entry Fee

A non- refundable entry fee of $20.00 for one or $25.00 for two pieces is charged to each

artist. Payment must be made at time of entry and is payable by check made out to

Towles Court Art Association or by cash.

Delivery of Entries

November 15: Bring art and payment to the Towles Court Art Center, 1938 Adams Lane, Sarasota. Entries must be delivered in person between 11 AM - 4 PM. Towles Court Art Association is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged work, although it will

give all reasonable care to work in its possession.

Work shown will be at the sole discretion of the Towles Court Art Association.

 “SMALL WORKS” Exhibition Information

Sales and Reproduction

All work must be for sale. No POR (price on request) or NFS (not for sale) The Towles Court Art Association receives 30% sales commission. The TCAA reserves the right to reproduce accepted entries for publicity purposes.

Liability All reasonable care will be given to work in the custody of the TCAA. However, the TCAA cannot assume responsibility for theft, damage, or deterioration of work at any time.

Return of Unaccepted Work

All work not accepted must be picked up at the Towles Court Art Center, 1938 Adams Lane, November 17, 11 AM – 4PM. Please bring your entry receipt.

Pick Up:  Pick up all exhibited work at the Towles Court Art Center Dec. 13, 11AM – 4PM

Any remaining work will not be the responsibility of the TCAA.
